YARNS AND COLOURS

YARN TYPES

SENSODEDICATO only uses first-choice yarns, occasionally an artisanal yarn mix, with slight variations from one production batch to the other, which may be due to the artisanal nature of procedures or meant to address aesthetic needs. A DEDICATO rugDESIGN piece is produced in the yarn preferred by its designer, who can choose from an extremely wide palette of colours (1,600 colours for wool and 400 colours for silk and fine yarns) as well as from all the weaving and knotting techniques offered by SENSODEDICATO.
SENSODEDICATO offers maximum customization, in terms of both execution and sizes. Prices are shown in the price list.
DEDICATO rugDESIGN draws each rug as a unique piece, whose copyright belongs to its legitimate owner when the rug is delivered.
The drawing and design cost is included in the published price.

Wool
The word “wool” indicates premium Nepalese wool, with long, silky fibres, sourced from the Tibetan Plateau. Wool from New Zealand is also available. Wool-working processes are entirely manual, with the only exception of New Zealand wool, which is machine twisted.

Fine yarns
The wording “fine yarns” refers to natural, non-animal fibres, i.e.: cellulose viscose (e.g. from cotton or banana), including superior quality material (e.g. bamboo) which can be used separately or mixed, depending on production requirements.
All these yarns are generally called “silks” (e.g. banana silk, bamboo silk etc.) owing to their extraordinary qualities, which are in no way inferior to animal silk.

Silk
The word “silk” refers to traditional, 100% animal silk, which is used together with wool and/or fine yarns, depending on production requirements.
Silk, which is always high-quality and never silk waste, is only available in DEDICATO rugDESIGN pieces and in the LUX line.

CUSTOMISATION

Each SENSO collection line is related to a specific range of yarns and colours. Their different level of customization depends on technical and commercial specifications. A few extras are available in a higher price class; they are shown on the price list or can be requested.
The 2013-2014 collection designs can undergo slight customization (to be agreed upon for each piece). All SENSODEDICATO designs are available in the specific line or in a higher price class. It is not possible to produce a design in a lower price class.
All the customization adaptations that are not included in the SENSO COLLECTION pattern/price list can be produced for DEDICATO rugDESIGN projects.

TOXIC
The TOXIC line features a mix of natural, non-animal fibres including flax, hemp, cotton and tree-bark fibres. It is a bio-ecological yarn with specific characteristics that are due to its structure. It does not absorb dirt easily and is therefore easy to wash. It does not catalyse dust and mites easily and, for this reason, it is more advisable than wool in cases of dust mite allergy.
The nature of these yarns and their related knotting techniques, however, are incompatible with certain colours and patterns. For this reason, TOXIC has predefined colours and designs and even prices.
Broadly speaking, a specific pattern lends itself to given proportions. It is possible to study a different size from standard by writing to SENSODEDICATO.

FREAK
The FREAK line is knotted mainly in 60L, which corresponds conventionally to 60 knots per linear foot.
FREAK uses Nepalese hand worked wool, with designs in fine yarns. New Zealand wool is also available, for increased “skin effect” (cf. § 1).
Sizes are predefined and colours can be chosen among the 100-colour basic palette of the SENSO COLLECTION (there are 100 guaranteed colours for each collection, for wool and fine yarns together). Prices depend on sizes.
A pattern of the FREAK line can be produced in a different size starting from the price class above (TOUCH 60L).

TOUCH
The TOUCH line is knotted in 60/80L (shown together in the lower 60L class) and in 100/120L (shown together in the lower 100L class) with Nepalese wool and fine yarns, entirely hand worked and used in a minimum 80% - 20% ratio.
New Zealand wool is available upon request and silk can be used instead of fine yarns (cf. § 1).
The SUPERIOR class corresponds to a higher proportion of fine yarns as compared to wool, to a specific knotting technique, to a different pile cut or to several of these characteristics that are connected to the production of a design or can be requested by the client.
Measures can be chosen, provided proportions are respected, with limitations as indicated in the pattern/price list. Colours can be chosen among a palette of 400+.

LUX
The LUX line is knotted in 100/120 L (shown together in the lower 100L class) and 150 L, with first-choice yarns, in different combinations: Nepalese wool and silk in a minimum 10% ratio; Nepalese wool and fine yarns in a minimum 80% - 20% ratio; silk and fine yarns in any proportion; entirely in fine yarns.
New Zealand wool is available upon request (cf. § 1), as well as the animal-free option.
The SUPERIOR class corresponds to a higher proportion of silk/fine yarns as compared to standard, to a specific knotting technique, to a different pile cut or to several of these characteristics that are connected to the production of a design or can be requested by the client.
Measures can be chosen, with limitations as indicated in the pattern/price list. Colours can be chosen among a palette of 800+.

Note:
Occasionally, certain LUX line rugs are knotted in 80/100 L (indications to be found in the technical fact sheet).
The LUX line rugs knotted with a mix of silks and fine yarns are labelled as silk rugs. The client can ask for the exact composition and percentage of the yarns used.
All the customization adaptations that are not included in the SENSO COLLECTION pattern/price list can be produced for DEDICATO rugDESIGN projects.

STARTING POINT & WORKFLOW

A DEDICATO rug can be produced on the basis of any desire of the client who chooses to rely on SENSODEDICATO. An image, a piece of fabric, one’s own drawing, an ancient rug, a series of colours or just a photograph of the room where the rug will be placed… whatever the source of inspiration, the DESIGNERS of SENSODEDICATO or the client’s regular architect will process the idea. The starting point is the choice of measurements, yarns and colours, as well as weaving techniques (cf. § 1 & 2).
The cost of design is included in the price of production.

The collaboration between SENSODEDICATO, architects and interior designers is multifold. It can be simple, essential assistance during production or a full-fledged conception and design service rendered in partnership.
In the first case, i.e. when the rug has already been conceived, drawn and designed, it is necessary to reach the right balance between several technical factors in order to obtain the desired effect: yarn types and their resistance, knotting techniques, cutting and trimming.
In the other case, after outlining the concept, the client’s technical staff decides to use our internal rugDESIGNER service and assign all production tasks to SENSODEDICATO.At the end of the design phase, the piece is virtually ready and the final result can be tested within a decoration project by means of a rendering process. The copyright is transferred from SENSODEDICTATO to the client together with the finished rug and remains the property of the client or the designer as per the label on the rug itself.

RUG SIZES

Manufacturing tolerances are held to a minimum in relation to declared dimensions and finish, in so far as hand knotting by different weavers allows.
This is a plus of SENSODEDICATO.
